The Benefits of Exterior Paint on Your Home
Recently our apartment building had a major make-over. The owner had the entire facade of the building painted in a bluish gray hue. I initially aired a complaint with the somber like color of the building. The color did not appeal to me at all because it gave the structure a dull and boring look.
The contractor had a one on one talk with me and explained why that was the color chosen for the exterior paint of the building. The building was made of solid concrete which was although sturdy was susceptible to absorbing moisture and water due to its exposure to the natural elements. Constant absorption of water in time makes the walls crack. What seemed like a boring outer coating of paint, turned out to be weather proofing. This kind of paint seals all the cracks and provides an outer layer of protection so the moisture will not penetrate the stone walls. This was a good base of paint after all. However, this was just the color the weatherproof paint available. They did offer to put another layer of paint in another shade and type of paint once this coat has dried.
After realizing the benefits of exterior painting, I agreed to just let the color be. The contractor compromised by adding highlights on our exteriors by painting the window frames and tiled roofing in a lively color of brick red which made a beautiful accent to our outdoor exteriors.
