Self-expression, communication, affluence, discernment. This is the Mother
Chakra and begins the three YIN or female energy chakras of the body. You can
inflict pain or kindness with the voice. What is more important to know is the
voice represents our "Intent". We will decree a thing and it will be
so. Therein lies the mystery of manifestation. As Louise Hay states in "You
Can Heal Your Life", ..."where thoughts go, energy flows." Our
life experiences comes directly from our thoughts, then speaking it, then our
actions. Inherent within every intention and desire is the mechanics for it¼s
fulfillment. The voice had great organizing power.
The fifth chakra, positioned at the base of the throat, acts as a focal point for the heart energy of the fourth chakra and the mind energy of the sixth chakra. Its energy relates to willpower and the power of choice, the most basic manifestation of self-expression. Every area of our lives, including health and illness, is directly affected by the choices we make and how we make them. Clear decisions and true authority, as epitomized by King Solomon, come when the truth and wisdom of the sixth chakra is supported and in agreement with the emotional power of the heart chakra.
Before we make a choice, we often experience a contest, a struggle, between the emotional and mental sides of ourselves. That struggle disrupts the throat chakra. Prolonged disruption can manifest as physical dysfunctions that involve the throat, thyroid, trachea, neck vertebrae, mouth, teeth and gums, esophagus, parathyroid, and hypothalamus. Such disruptions also play a role in addiction. Without the balance and joined power of head and heart, the will lacks a leader to follow; so, it goes out in search of something to pledge its energy to, taking the form of an addiction. In her book, Myss writes: "The symbolic challenge of the Willpower chakra is to progress through the maturation of will: from the tribal perception that everyone and everything around you has authority over you; through the perception that you alone have authority over you; to the final perception, that true authority comes from aligning yourself to God's will."
The fifth chakra is the throat and it's energies are that of the throat, trachea, thyroid, mouth, esophagus, teeth and gums, neck vertebrae and the hypothalamus. This is the area of spoken word, an area of action. This is our will.Strengths that some from here are out ability to make choices, our personal expression, our ability to follow our dream, and our faith and knowledge. This is where we use our personal power to create. Make no doubt, the will has a shadow side too. This is also the source of our judgment, criticism. This is the center of our lack of the above abilities too. If we make constantly poor choices, if we have no real sense of personal power, it is because of imbalances of the will. As the center of our choice, this is also the area of addiction within us.
Disorders of the will are chronic sore throat problems, mouth ulcers, gum difficulties, thyroid problems and swollen glands. Particularly, thyroid problems and glandular disorders, as with the will itself, can play a huge impact in our life.
The will is uncomfortably settled between the heart (the fourth chakra) and the mind (the fifth chakra). If you consider the fact that basically the mind and the heart never agree on anything, indeed we could say that our will is caught between those two chakras. Strong and chronic conflict of the heart and mind will bring about the primary disorder of the will in our society today, which is addiction. It is interesting to note that although the will is perfectly capable of getting us into our addictions, it is seldom sufficient to bring us out of them. By the time addictions take over, all of our energy centers are off balance.
If we have significant and severe imbalances in our first three chakras, the chances that we will become an addict increase dramatically. If we suffer in the areas of our family and associations (first chakra), power (second chakra) and suffer with issues of poor self worth in general (third chakra), it is our will that often gets off balance enough to propel us into our addictions. Whether that addiction is alcohol, drugs, gambling, eating disorders or an addiction of behavioral patterns, it is our will that is misapplied.
