Solar Plexus Chakra |
"Man is constant choice, even in not choosing he chooses"
John Paul Sartre
The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the color yellow. This is the area which defines our "self-esteem". The personality that develops during puberty is housed in this Chakra....otherwise known as the "EGO". Anyone experiencing dysfunction of the third Chakra is having difficulty obtaining or maintaining his/her own "personal power". This intuitive Chakra is where we get our "gut instincts" that signal us to do or not to do something. Strong self-esteem is a required for developing intuitive skills.

The lesson of the third Chakra is about self-responsibility and self-respect. This Chakra houses both survival intuition, which warns of danger and negative action or energy coming from others, and self-esteem, without which intuitive guidance is ignored and discounted. Myss has found that depression often originates when people lose self-respect because they have broken a promise to themselves. Issues concerning self-responsibility, caring for oneself and others, self-esteem, fear of rejection, and an over-sensitivity to criticism eventually manifest as ailments in the abdomen, stomach, upper intestines, liver, gallbladder, kidney, pancreas, adrenal glands, spleen, and middle spine. Myss has also found that arthritis, anorexia, and bulimia often relate to third Chakra issues. The third Chakra demands that we honor ourselves and that we respect the everyday survival information we receive from our intuition.
Valerie Hunt refers to the third Chakra as the emotional body, the area through which emotions located in the aura, such as fear and anger, enter the body.
This is the area of self. Trust, fear, intimidation, self confidence and self respect come from here. The ability to care for oneself and others, personal honor, sensitivity to criticism and our responsibility for making decisions lies here. If you think of how it is that you get a knot in your stomach when someone criticizes you, you know the energy of this Chakra. You also know exactly how we lose our energy from this area. We often refer to our intuitions in regards to others and to decisions in general as our "gut instinct." The energy and power of this Chakra is part of our language and our everyday thinking.
The ability to stand strong and self reliant come from this Chakra. Our compassion to care for ourselves and others lies here, as well as our personal honor. Ambition, willingness to take risks, our ability to handle a crisis, generosity and our ethics are the strengths that develop here.
Fear or criticism, inability to take action and fears of rejection our third Chakra fears. Our fear over our image, being unattractive, body weight images, baldness etc. come from here also.
Inabilities to honor ourselves and others, to be honored or defamed, can bring physical problems such as arthritis, ulcers, pancreatitis, diabetes, colon/intestinal problems, and chronic indigestion. Liver dysfunctions, hepatitis, adrenal dysfunctions can also have roots here as well as severe body image disorders such as bulimia or anorexia.
Mandala

The world is made of YELLOW ENERGY which you carry in the Third Chakra,
the solar plexus. This is your emotional/personal power center, self-control,
sense of authority and where, in unison with the heart, you project love/Light.
See this yellow world radiate a brilliant gold color to this chakra
as you release all negative attachments and clear the emotional trauma; all the
psychic energy you have absorbed from others down through the ages, as well as
all the hurt, anger and fear. How does it feel to take back your authority,
self-control and to project only love and Light out into the world?
